 The first Saturday in October there will be a bike ride to benefit three ministries important to many persons in Hall County, both the recipients of their work and as those motivated to help provide such ministries: Good News at Noon, the Good News Medical Clinic, and Adults Protecting Children. Trinity was asked to be a co-sponsor of the event, but we did not have funds available this year. However, I do know we have cyclists in the church and I hope we can be helpful in this way. The ride is Saturday, October 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Riverbend Baptist Church. There is a $25.00 registration fee if you register by September 15, $35.00 after that. The ride includes a T-shirt, goody bag, and lunch from Johnny's BBQ. Last year's inaugural ride netted some $4,000.00 to aid these ministries. You can help in exceeding that goal in 2010!  As you are out and about, have you noticed Trinity's new directional signs? We found the blank signs a while back in a closet (!) and the Communications Committee added the directions and church name; Jennifer (CC Chair) and Scott Glover have done the grunt work of erecting them. They may be found at Quillians Corner (at IGA) and at the Brookton intersection. They join the other signs already long placed. Signs are one more helpful way to invite and direct our neighbors to Trinity. But the number one way is, of course, your invitation.  "Growing Spirited Scholars" Sunday, August 15, will be Trinity's annual Sunday School Celebration. This year's theme is "Growing Spirited Scholars." Colossians 1:10 says "please [God] in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God." The scripture often uses the lessons of the garden to help us understand the process of spiritual growth. What better person, then, to speak to us that day than Mr. Gene Anderson, a favorite person in our community who, among his varied accomplishments, served for many years as a County Agent in the Georgia Extension Service. From his experiences, from the field and from his faith, he'll talk to us about the importance of Christian Education. As usual, we'll recognize and express appreciation to our teachers. And we'll take note of our young people moving from the Children's Department into the Youth Class. After the Service we'll enjoy lunch together in Trinity Hall — bring a favorite Salad (keeping with the "growing-our-garden theme"); the Education Committee will provide dessert and drinks and paper products.  Melissa Hollifield, Coordinator of Acolyte Ministries, invites those entering 4th Grade or already older to join Trinity's Acolyte Team. When you respond, she will be contact you to arrange a time with you and your mom or dad for some one-on-one training. We're also counting on our veteran acolytes to be back following our summer break. In September Jennifer will have a quick refresher review for our returning acolytes — one Sunday after church, Pizza Lunch followed by training review. And then later in the month there will be a Sunday when our Acolyte Corp will be recognized in the service. New acolytes will be presented their Acolyte Cross; veteran acolytes will be given their new cord. Each year of service earns a new cord: Year 1 - Black Year 2 - Brown Year 3 - White Year 4 - Silver Year 5 & beyond - GOLD Then, some day, after you've reached the Gold level, when you retire you will be presented the wooden cross you've worn each Sunday you've served through the years; it will become a treasured keepsake of your years of youthful ministry in Trinity's worship.  We had a great 4th of July Celebration. The change-of-pace Service was meaningful, the music was wonderful. Josh & Tracy Giles and their helpers hosted a great cook-out lunch for us. John Adams wrote on July 5, 1776 in a letter to his wife: "It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more." Every few years July 4 falls on a Sunday, affording churches an opportunity to add a faith dimension to a celebration that majors in fireworks and cookouts. Like most holidays, we're in danger of enjoying the day without reflecting on its meaning. Most Christians would agree with John Adams, who said, "The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.” [July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.” At Trinity we’ll use the opportunity to give thanks to God for our freedoms and to ask His renewed blessings on America!
