Every few years July 4 falls on a Sunday, affording churches an opportunity to add a faith dimension to a celebration that majors in fireworks and cookouts. Like most holidays, we're in danger of enjoying the day without reflecting on its meaning.
Most Christians would agree with John Adams, who said, "The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.” [July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”
At Trinity we’ll use the opportunity to give thanks to God for our freedoms and to ask His renewed blessings on America!
